Our Story

Gene & Beth: We met as high school seniors in 1997 at Governor's Scholar in Danville, Kentucky. It was love at first sight! We dated for the next five years, while we attended the University of Louisville. Gene proposed in April of 2001, and we were married on June 15, 2002. That Fall, Gene began medical school and I began law school. We moved from Louisville, Kentucky to Columbia, South Carolina in the summer of 2006, where Gene began his training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of South Carolina. On September 10, 2008, our first child, Garett Matthew was born and changed our lives forever. Three years later, we found ourselves in Durham, North Carolina where Gene completed his last year of training, a spine surgery fellowship at Duke University. On March 28, 2012, we were blessed with the arrival of our second child, Holden Miller. Four months later, we came to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and made our home, just a short walk from the ocean. We started this blog to share with family and friends, both near and far, all the memories we are making in this - The Sweet Life.
