The Day We Thought Would Never Come - Graduation!

Four years of college, four years of medical school, five years of residency. Two states and one child later. Wow, what a journey this has been.
The USC Department of Orthopaedics' version of the Three Musketeers - Drs. Andrew Duffee, Mary Finn and Gene Massey.
We were so fortunate to have our family join us to celebrate Gene's graduation. Dinner out on the evening before graduation ceremony was an easy choice - burgers at Pauley's Porch in the heart of Five Points.
Gene and his brother Joe on a striper fishing trip on the morning of graduation. You might be wondering, as any reasonable person would, what on earth would possess Gene to head out on a boat all day before the biggest night of his life, risking missing his graduation ceremony due to drowning or attack by a ferocious lake beast?
Well, here you have it! Just a few weeks before graduation, Gene caught the fish of his life, a beautiful grouper, on a deep sea fishing trip off Wilmington with his brother Joe and friends. Way to go Daddy, and YES, your grouper was bigger than my grouper, I admit it freely.
Let the party begin! Thanks to Garett's cousin Caroline for babysitting so we could attend the graduation ceremony and dinner. It was a lovely event, but a LONG night.
It's official! Gene was not only presented with his diploma but honored in two respects, having been named Resident of the Year and winner of the Kimbrough-Moore research award. Sweetheart, you deserve every ounce of that recognition and we couldn't be more proud of all you've accomplished.
