Moving Away, Moving On

Few jobs are more unenviable than packing up a house. We saved the chore for the absolute last minute. Thanks to our family for lending their time and lots of manpower, and thanks to our friends, especially Cory and Natalie, for babysitting Garett while we got some serious labor done.
"Hey, this box is just my size!"
"Cool, it even has a top. Let's hide!"
"No one will find me in here!"
Let's just hope that box gets on the truck!
The big day finally arrived! Garett bolted out of bed when I told him that the big yellow truck was in the driveway. He grabbed his sad little balloon from the grocery and headed straight for the front door.
Garett offers to lend a hand. The movers weren't quite as charmed by him as we were. Thanks so much to my friend Josie, who gave us a spot at My Gym for Garett that day. It was tons of fun for him and we were able to get so much more accomplished while he was playing.
Two moving trucks, dozens of boxes, dozens of rolls of tape, more money out the window than we ever expected to spend on moving, too many late nights of packing behind us, and we were ready to hit the road. Garett waves goodbye to "baby's house" and blows a goodbye kiss. Thought I would cry, but the entire day had been so chaotic and there was still so much to be done when we arrived in Durham, that we just jumped in the car and took off without even a backward glance. You'll notice in this picture that Garett is down to nothing but a diaper - it was 105 degrees on our moving day. HORRIBLE. Just glad we survived it!
