Where did the summer go?

This summer was a blur. Somewhere between traveling to all of Gene's job interviews, trying to sell the house, finding a house in Durham, and doing our best to spend quality time with our friends before leaving town, we managed to snap a few pictures along the way. The photo above is the first blossom on our magnolia tree, a tree we planted the first spring we were in Columbia.
Yes, it was that hot in Columbia this summer. If you weren't at the pool, you were wishing you were. Hottest summer EVER.
Playing in the sprinklers and trying to beat the heat.
My boys on Father's Day. It's a little blurry, but we do our best these days - Garett is more of a moving target than ever.
One of many fishing trips with Daddy this summer. Pucker up!
Garett goes to the movies! Cars 2 hit the theater this summer, Garett donned his best Mater shirt, and headed off to see his first movie. We were joined by his buddies Austin, Thomas, Elizabeth and Patrick for a full morning of fun. The kids did so well! We bribed them with a giant tub of popcorn and managed to keep them in their seats, for the most part anyway.
"Three tickets please! HOW MUCH? You've got to be kidding me!"
A pirate's life for me? Garett enjoys an afternoon boat ride on the Waccamaw River in Pawley's Island.
Garett was a lucky boy this summer. He went to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend with us, then back to Myrtle Beach for a week with MiMi and GooGoo. What a treat for us to have some time together without him! Although, I was heartsick by the end of the week. Many thanks to MiMi and GooGoo, and especially cousin Caroline for taking such good care of Garett. He had a blast!
Can you beat a smoothie by the pool? Not unless you're Mommy and it's chock full of rum.
Our weekend away in Charleston was so relaxing. Gene had a job interview, and Garett and I decided to join him at the last minute. This was the view from the balcony in our room at the Charleston Place.
My sweet boy in dappled morning light, just after feasting on a giant bowl of strawberries. Gene and I delighted in chocolate croissant and fresh blueberry tarts. Man, they know how to make a tummy happy in Charleston.
Garett and Daddy snack on popcorn while we wait for our carriage ride to begin.
Garett makes a friend at the Charleston Aquarium.
Happy 4th of July! We celebrated over dinner with our friend and neighbor Diane, grabbed dessert at Baskin Robbins and watched the fireworks at The Village.
Splish, splash! We had tons of fun at the Hoover's annual Independence Day party.
He just cracks me up!
